Thanks for the feedback guys. The skies are quite dark, which is why I live there. When the wind wips up the sand during the day, the sand lingers at times in the atmosphere during the night and spoils the seeing conditions. The best viewing is when the Los Angeles basin is covered with low clouds, then the whole Milky Way is quite visible, even to the southern horizon. From the observatory I can even see Canopus, although it skirts the southern horizon for a brief period of time. The site is at 34.67N and 117.82W with an elevation of 2,600 feet (792 meters). I have experienced temperatures, at home, of 6-deg F (-14.5 C) up to 118-deg F (48 C). If one were to take my line of lattitude and extend it to the east, it would pass just below the island of Crete. -Fred
